Stoma and Urology Prescribing Update

From October 2025, prescribing and reviews for stoma and urology appliances have moved from GP practices to a specialist service called the Appliance Management Service, provided by Bullen Healthcare on behalf of BOB ICB.

This service manages prescriptions for stoma products, urology products and related accessories.

What this means for patients

  • Your GP will no longer routinely issue prescriptions for stoma or urology appliances.
  • Bullen Healthcare specialist nurses are responsible for prescribing and reviewing these items.
  • You will continue to receive your supplies as normal through your chosen dispensing appliance contractor or pharmacy.
  • Your clinical care remains with the practice. If you have infections, skin problems, abdominal pain or other medical concerns, please contact us in the usual way.

If you have not received a welcome call

If you use stoma or urology appliances and have not yet received a welcome call from Bullen Healthcare, please contact them directly to ensure you are registered with the service.

Patient choice

Patients can choose to opt out of the Appliance Management Service and remain under GP prescribing, subject to the practice agreeing to continue clinical responsibility.

If you would prefer to remain under GP prescribing for your appliances, please contact the practice to discuss this.

If agreed, we will inform the BOB Appliance Management Service so their records are updated and duplicate prescriptions are avoided.

All future appliance prescriptions would then need to be ordered directly through the GP practice as before.
