Carer Help

For free, accessible help in the Wokingham area.

The  Carer Advisor Service was set up in May 2013 by Wokingham Borough Council in partnership with Sue Ryder Care and Berkshire Carers Service as a free, open access (no referral needed) service to carers who are looking after an adult with a life limiting illness (such as Motor Neurone Disease, cancer, COPD etc)

It can help by giving:

  •  information about local support services
  •  information about managing work and caring
  •  financial information on available benefits and grants
  •  emotional support
  •  help with planning ahead, e.g. Advance Care Planning
  •  help with completing forms e.g. "Blue Badge" applications,  Lasting Power of  Attorney forms
  •  help with respite care and planning a break from caring
  •  signposting to relevant training to support Carers in their caring role

Part of the difficulty in reaching those in need of help has been carers rarely identify themselves as a "carer" when they are mostly someone's mum, or someone's sister, or partner.  If you are looking after an adult friend/partner/neighbour/relative please contact:
